Casein Protein Powder

Casein Protein Powder is slow digesting. It steadly releases amino acids into the blood steam. Digestion can take up to 7 hours. This is often what I take before bed. Perfect amount of time to hold me over until breakfast.
Facts:
- Predominantly found in milk
- Forms a "gel" in the stomach which steadily releases amino acids
- Body needs 6-8 hours for digestion
- Separated from milk by ultrafiltration, which makes bioactive milk peptides (supports immune system and muscle growth)
This type has a strong anti-catabolic effect. (catabolic means your body eats your muscles for a source of energy) When mixing milk with it, you get the most for you money. I've done this before and you have to be able to put up with a thick consistancy (almost like a milkshake). Otherwise just use water.
Casein comes in 3 forms...
- Calcuim caseinate
- Milk isolate
- Instantised casein
If you go to bed with an empty stomach, your body breaks down your muscles for a source of energy. With this type of protein, it makes digestion in the middle of the night ideal to not "lose" your hard earned muscles. If you take whey before bed, it is absorbed within an hour.
