Ronnie Protein Drinks

About one month ago I began to use protein powder at least once a day, usually for my breakfast. My favorite at the moment is 100% Whey by Optimum Nutrition. They do suggest to mix it with water or milk. I have tried both and use an organic fat free milk as I like the taste and texture better. There are two subjects I wish to share with you. One is my recipe and the other is my experience/result with my new discovery.

I make my protein drink using a blender and I do add a few other things. I freeze the fruit (just a little goes a long way) the night before- be it a half of a banana or 10 blueberries or 4 strawberries or a few pieces of fresh pineapple- any one fruit that would complement the flavor of the drink. I have tried more than one fruit choice but what happens in my experience is you cannot taste the fruit- so i only use one now. I freeze the fruit because it makes the drink smoothie like and I enjoy that. I also grind up (using a coffee/herb grinder) FIBER ONE and add one tablespoon of Fiber One to the mixture.

This has not seemed to alter the taste any and on a personal level I want some fiber. Sometimes I add a teaspoon (again, you do not need a lot) of fresh almond butter which goes nice when using my half of banana. By the way, peel the banana before freezing and place it in a freezer bag in your freezer. You need not cut it just throw it in the blender as is when you are ready. You could add ground flax seed, I sometimes do or anything that might compliment your drink or your personal needs. I am very pleased with my protein choice and my recipe. I do enjoy the flavor and look forward to it.

So you might be wondering why do I do this?

Number one- I am not a big breakfast eat-er and we all know how important breakfast is. So this is perfect for me. I also find when I consume my protein drink I am not hungry for 4-5 hours AFTER- this is a good thing. I am not over weight but I am 53 years old and do not want to gain weight- so healthy choices are VERY important for me. I do my protein drinks about 5 times a week.

Two days a week I have protein (food) for breakfast and once in a while I will do the protein drink for a lunch instead of breakfast. I do exercise and recently started to practice yoga and between all these components I am beginning to see my body tone and I can see real dimension in my arms and legs. Also, a good thing. I have become a huge fan of the protein drinks and on another subject- a good choice protein bar is great after a workout or a yoga class. I keep them in my purse and yoga bag all the time.

I am not a doctor- but I say, drink a lot of water too.

It is all working out for me and if you are wondering- I am female ;-)
